Episode Transcript
Welcome back to Big Dill Sports! I’m your host, Dillon, and you’re tuned into another episode of "Royals Recap"! We've got plenty to talk about today, so let’s dive in.
The Kansas City Royals had a tough outing yesterday, dropping a nail-biter 1-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Saturday's game was all about battling through a pitcher’s duel, and the Royals came up just short, marking their fourth consecutive loss.
The lone run came courtesy of the Cardinals’ Jordan Walker, who launched a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning. That’s his third home run of the season—and unfortunately, it was enough to seal the Royals’ fate for the night.
Now, let’s talk about Royals’ rookie sensation, Noah Cameron. Making only his second big league start, Cameron was truly impressive, despite the scoreboard. He pitched for 6.1 innings, allowing just the one run, and kept the Cardinals to just two hits while striking out three. Even though he took the loss, his performance is one to be proud of. Currently, Cameron's ERA is sitting at an excellent 0.71. It’s a great start for the young pitcher, and he’s someone we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on.
The Royals' offense, however, struggled against a strong Cardinals pitching staff. Miles Mikolas, the Cardinals' starter, was dominant on the mound—going for six scoreless innings, racking up four strikeouts, and only giving up four hits. This win puts Mikolas at 3-2 for the season. And let’s not forget Ryan Helsley, who closed the door in the ninth, notching his ninth save of the year.
The Cardinals’ defense contributed heavily to their win too. Nolan Arenado flashed some leather with a slick catch at third base, while Victor Scott II made a highlight-reel leaping grab at the wall—robbing the Royals of any potential momentum. But credit where it's due, the Royals had their moments defensively. Brendan Donovan turned a timely double play in the eighth inning, keeping the Royals within arm’s reach of tying it up.
Bobby Witt Jr. faced off with Mikolas in the first, ending with a strikeout. Vinnie Pasquantino managed a single early on, and Drew Waters added to the offense with a single in the eighth. However, these hits were too few and far between to make a difference, as the Royals’ lineup struggled to get anything going.
Now, for today’s Big Dill moment—our spotlight player has to go to Noah Cameron for his standout debut at home. Holding it down on the mound and showing poise beyond his years, Cameron's performance was the silver lining for the Royals last night.
Elsewhere in Royals news, pitchers Cole Ragans and Seth Lugo have both been placed on the 15-day injured list. Here’s hoping for speedy recoveries for both of them, as they'll be crucial in the coming weeks.
The Royals are now sitting at a record of 25-22. It’s been a rollercoaster of a season so far, but with players stepping up like Cameron, there’s hope for brighter days ahead.
That’s all for today’s Royals Recap on Big Dill Sports. Keep tuning in for all your Royals updates and remember, even in the losses, there’s a shining star in every game. Until next time, keep swinging for the fences!
