Today, we're looking at the matchup between the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics, which took place on Friday, June 13, 2025. A showdown that certainly had its fair share of drama and key plays.

The evening kicked off promisingly for the Royals as they grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. A strong opener, but as it would unfold, that lead didn't hold. The Athletics began their offensive march with single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings. But the real game-changer happened in the sixth when the A’s racked up another three runs, creating a solid cushion against the Royals.

The Royals, however, weren't ready to fold without a fight. They mounted an impressive comeback, lighting up the boards with three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Though a nail-biter for many fans, it just wasn't enough to overcome the Athletics' lead, ending the game with a score of 6-4, breaking Oakland's 14-game road losing streak and marking Kansas City's fourth straight loss.

Now, for the highlights. On the A's side, Austin Wynns had a standout moment with his first home run since joining the team. Luis Urías also sent a solo shot over the fences, making it his seventh homer of the year.

For Kansas City, the inimitable Salvador Perez delivered with a solid RBI double. Nick Kurtz added to the fight with an RBI single, and Nick Loftin, who has been finding his groove lately, recorded multiple RBIs for the first time since last June. These sparks in the Royals lineup were noteworthy, even if the comeback fell just short.

Turning to player performances, let’s shine our spotlight on some notable stats. From the mound for Oakland, Luis Severino was indeed the 'big dill' of the night. Pitching for 7.2 innings, he allowed just a single earned run, striking out one and reaching a major milestone of 1,000 career innings. His road ERA was lowered to a phenomenal MLB-best 0.93, a testament to his sheer skill and resilience. Severino's control and form were a key element in clinching this victory for the A’s.

Over in the Royals’ camp, while the loss stung, there were still individual performances worth mentioning. Michael Wacha, taking the loss, pitched for 5.1 innings, struck out five but allowed five earned runs. On a more positive note, Maikel Garcia showed prowess at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run and a double. It's these flickers of brilliance that keep hope alive for a turnaround in the season.

And as we wrap things up, there’s a bit of news concerning the Royals. Cole Ragans is set to get a second opinion on a shoulder injury next week, a situation we’re keeping a close eye on given the impact it could have on the roster. Also noteworthy, Drew Waters was absent from the lineup in Friday's game.
