Welcome to "Daily Double Play: Your MLB Update" on Big Dill Sports with me, Dillon. It's July 18, 2025, and baseball is back in full swing after the All-Star break. We've got a packed lineup of games and performances to dive into, so let's get right to it.
Major League Baseball had all 15 games running, and they were nothing short of spectacular. Kicking things off, the Seattle Mariners took down the Houston Astros 6-1. Luis Castillo shone for Seattle, giving up just one run over seven dominant innings. Meanwhile, J.P. Crawford and Cal Raleigh kicked it into high gear with back-to-back homers, really sealing the deal.
Over to Chicago, where the Cubs bested the Boston Red Sox 4-1. Seiya Suzuki was the man of the moment, launching a three-run homer early on. That shot was Suzuki's 26th of the season, and it helped Colin Rea settle in and keep the Cubs in the lead. Daniel Palencia came in to grab his 13th save, adding a nice touch to a strong outing.
Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox made a statement with a commanding 10-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Luis Robert Jr. seemed like he didn't take a break at all, going 2-for-2 with a homer. Dylan Cease was back too, and he looked sharp, lowering his ERA to 3.45.
San Diego Padres fans, how about that 7-2 win over the Nationals? Manny Machado delivered a crucial homer and tallied four RBIs, while the bullpen kept it together, rightfully earning them this victory.
In Arizona, Brandon Pfaadt was unstoppable. He kept the Cardinals scoreless through seven innings, helping the Diamondbacks to a 7-3 win. Christian Walker’s two-run single highlighted their offense.
Rookie standout, Quinn Priester of the Milwaukee Brewers, gets a nod too. He led his team to a 2-0 shutout against the Dodgers, fanning ten across six innings without giving up a hit.
The Cleveland Guardians held onto an 8-6 win over the Oakland Athletics, with Slade Cecconi leading the charge and José Ramírez adding support with his bat.
The Toronto Blue Jays grounded the Giants 4-0, thanks to Chris Bassitt's slick six innings and contributions from Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Atlanta Braves showed resilience with a 7-3 victory over the Yankees. Ronald Acuña Jr.'s bat was loud and clear, leading to a strong offensive push in the sixth inning.
Last but certainly not least, the Miami Marlins edged out an 8-7 win in 10 innings over the Kansas City Royals. Kyle Stowers was a force to be reckoned with, homering twice and driving in five runs.
Now, for our Big Dill of the Day, it's gotta be Seiya Suzuki from the Cubs. That three-run homer set the pace early against the Red Sox and extended his post-break OPS to an impressive 1.042. Suzuki is indeed proving to be a big deal in those Cubby blues.
On the injuries front, Yankees fans are keenly waiting for Max Fried and Cam Schlittler to return. With their rotation stretched thin, some fresh arms would be a big relief. It's going to be interesting to see how the Yankees navigate the upcoming trade deadline.
That's all for today's episode of "Daily Double Play: Your MLB Update". Thanks for tuning in. Keep swinging, and we'll catch you on the next edition of Big Dill Sports. Stay sporty!

## Milestones and Debuts
Johnathan Rodríguez of Cleveland launched his first career MLB home run—a solo shot off JP Sears in the sixth inning of the Guardians’ win over Oakland—continuing a trend of rookies making early-season impacts. David Fry added a two-run homer in the seventh, and José Ramírez recorded his second triple of the year in the fourth inning. ## Injury and Team News
The New York Yankees opened the second half without injured starters Max Fried (blister) and rookie Cam Schlittler (upper-arm soreness), resorting to a bullpen game in Friday’s loss. Manager Aaron Boone indicated both are expected back after further rest, and the club may pursue rotation help before the July 31 trade deadline given ongoing IL stints for Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt. The Seattle Mariners, now 51–45 and trailing Houston by five games in the AL West, welcome back starters George Kirby and Logan Gilbert for their series finale Saturday. While their offense has been buoyed by Cal Raleigh’s 38 homers, Seattle’s staff ranks only 16th in ERA; the pair’s returns figure to be pivotal in the stretch drive.
